About Me

It is my professional goal to become a School Adjustment Counselor. I am interested in advocating for individuals in my community that are under-represented, inflicted with life challenges, and in need. I have a deep yearning to empower vulnerable populations as well as strengthen individual lives. One of my goals I have achieved throughout my Master’s Program was to broaden my knowledge in different subject areas that this program had to offer, such as different multicultural aspects as well as career counseling.

My personal and professional experiences have influenced my decision to continue my education to achieve my career goal in the field of Adjustment Counseling.  As a young child my mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.  This resulted in a difficult period of adjustment for not only me, by my family as well. All through her diagnosis, treatment, and recovery I received counseling from a counselor at school, as well as outside of school, who helped me to deal with my mother’s illness, while continuing to assist and empower me through the adjustment of her recovery and transition back to health.  At a very young age, I developed a strong personal appreciation for the support services that school counselors provide. This appreciation motivated me to complete my undergraduate study in both Social Work as well as Psychology as my majors.  By completing a double major in the Social Sciences, I had a wonderful opportunity to gain insight into various fields of studies and reflect upon how helping others is my true passion.

Throughout my three valuable undergraduate internships, one being at Apponequet High School with the school Adjustment Counselor, I have had the opportunity to utilize many of these professional skills, while developing an even deeper desire to expand my knowledge and education.  It was at this internship that I realized it was the profession for me. I immediately fell in love with the job, client population, and challenges it presented. At my internship I was an acting counselor two days a week, where I had my own client load as well as attended meetings with the guidance staff and learned the behind the scenes jobs that the Adjustment Counselors deal with, such as working hand in hand with the guidance department on different tasks.

Throughout my Master’s Program at Bridgewater State University I eagerly dedicated myself to the challenge that the program curriculum and Masters level internships presented.  My personal desire and effective time management skills allowed me to appropriately balance my personal life, school and work challenges.  My success reflects my ability to manage multiple demanding tasks with limited challenge.  I have successfully completed my double major undergraduate course requirements, dual license for my masters, as well as  internships, and full time employment, while engaging in multiple volunteer activities. These opportunities have acted as a form of reinforcement to assure me that I have chosen the most optimal career path for my individual strengths and talents.
